Soarse Spoken: Third World Prophecies CD

The long awaited CD, we promised at the end of 2007 is finally here! Soarse Spoken's debut entitled "Third World Prophecies" is out. Another Botanica del Jibaro classic with a Botanica All-Star cast of soldiers: Climber, Manuvers, Omniscient (from Arrowax), Sharpsound, Prefuse 73, Deviant, Stres (from Antennae), Seven Star and more. The album demonstrates the wide range of a street poet that was born in Colombia, later grazing the armpit of America known as New Jersey, only to one day end up in the place some racists here like to call the Banana Republic aka Miami. From being born with nothing and to still having nothing in the way of material wealth, Soarse's Spoken teaches you we've always had everything, aslong as you've gained knowledge and wisdom throughout your struggle. His words travels through the world elite controled government which then uses military and police to control the masses, covert CIA operations, civil war in Colombia and global problems facing immigrants and all humans today to the lighter side of partying (which is an escape from the daily struggle and celebrating life, a staple part of Latin American culture through dance and music) and sparking up a blunt at a club with his crew and lady. An everyday story here in Miami. His story, words and visions recorded for the masses to hear as many street prophets have done in the past... Check out samples here!

And check out this promotional video collaboration together with Rice and Beans clothing brand with one of the title tracks from the album, produced by Prefuse 73 and Soarse Spoken flipping the bilingual lyrical metralleta. All design by La Mano Fria, additional photo and design support by Iris.

May Day 2007!

Walking recently throughout the streets and varies barrios of San Jose, Costa Rica, we saw that a lot of the graff was protest oriented, against the TLC, which is yet another "free" trade pact the like ALCA (FTAA) or NAFTA/CAFTA. To make it simple, these trade organization deals mean freedom not for workers but for wealthy corporations, freedom for them not to pay workers fair wages, health benefits.. Freedom for corporations to escape national laws and prosectution for their illegal and unethical activites. Anyway, say no to TLC, FTAA in the third world, say yes to "fair" trade where workers are treated with respect and are allowed to form unions, so they can protect their rights...

Those that know about this and know Beta Bodega Coalition, know this is one of the main reasons we created the record labels and various projects. The message. We post this on one of the most important days of the year, not Christmas, not New Years.. May Day! May day is our day, the day of the workers! More information about what TLC did for Mexico, peep this here (Spanish only).

This video here explains how TLC type agreements have made things worse in not better for working people as many people here in America would like to go on thinking. Unemployment: 12% (1994), 30% (2005) | Poverty: 21% (1994), 50% (2005). These numbers come from CEPAL 2005 figures, CEPAL is an organization of the United Nations formed to monitor economic & social growth in Latin America.

The Police part of the military industrial complex to protect the property and system of the elite class. Uncover their lies! Whether it be in an organized institution or daily everyday struggle, school is in session for us all and Rice and Beans wants to serve up that lesson. [Colombia] Zully Codina was a mother, veteran hospital worker and union activist. The last role was the one that cost Codina her life at the hands of right-wing paramilitary death squads, whose records show they collaborated with Colombia's intelligence service to assasinate her and other union activists. Codina was killed on Nov. 11, 2003, when a gunman pumped three bullets into her head moments after she kissed her family goodbye and walked out of her Santa Marta home. Her murderers remain at large, as do those of the vast majority of the 400 union members killed since President Álvaro Uribe took office in 2002. Uribe's government is the Bush administration's closest ally in Latin America and has received billions in U.S. aid to "fight drugs", but ends up mostly being used to fuel the ongoing civil war.

This pattern of outside groups and "superpower" backed regimes murdering or aiding in the murder of union activists, teachers, students, thinkers, musicians, , etc... is as old as Latin Americas history as "independent" nations: Chile, Brazil, Aregntina, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, etc... Whether this historical outside interference comes from the US, Soviets, Spain, Portugal, Britain, Catholic church, Isreali or Muslim extremists, the point is for once can Latin America be left alone? To develop properly and choose their own destiny? The answer will always be no from those in power because of "interests" such as rich resources and cheap labor which are needed to fuel the capitalist society we live in, but basn't Latin America been raped long enough? Did Zully Codina really have to be assainated just because she wanted to help defend the basic human rights of fellow workers?

Above is a photo of Zully Codina, shown with her son and husband. And look into the eyes of her son and wonder what he's going to think once he's old enough to understand why his mother was taken away. We hope it's for the positive, meaning his mothers work and spirit to help others will live on through him in his life. And that he not dwell on revenge. This is the cycle of tragedy and violence that grips places like Colombia every single day.

Ban on Brazilian billboards

From January 1, 2008 there will be a ban on outdoor advertising in Sao Paulo, including billboards, neon signs and electronic panels. Imagine a modern metropolis with no outdoor advertising: no billboards, no flashing neon signs, no electronic panels with messages crawling along the bottom. The people voted to hit the "delete all" button and offer its unimpeded views of their surroundings. The law is "a rare victory of the public interest over private...", Roberto Pompeu de Toledo, a columnist and author of a history of Sao Paulo, wrote in the weekly newsmagazine Veja. "For once in life, all that are accustomed to coming out on top in Brazil, have lost." But advertising and business groups regard the legislation as injurious to society and an affront to their professions. They say that free expression will be inhibited. Opponents to the law also say "consumers will have less information on which to base purchasing decisions" . They also argue that streets will be less safe at night with the loss of lighting from outdoor advertising. "This is a radical law that damages the rules of a market economy and respect for the rule of law," said Marcel Solimeo, chief economist of the Commercial Association of Sao Paulo, which has 32,000 members. "We live in a consumer society and the essence of capitalism is the availability of information about products." "It is not politically correct to talk about the million-plus posters and signs that small businesses and mechanics' shops have up all over the place, because they are poor," said Francesc Petit, a prominent advertising executive who has spoken out against the law. "It's easier to attack McDonald's and Coca-Cola and the banks, because that doesn't offend anybody."

[Editorial] Eventhough their million dollar corporate clients can still pollute the radio, magazine, web and TV with their audio and visual spam everywhere, they seem to still feel their "artistic" expression is under attack. Do billboard signs make us all run to the store and buy things? And should we thank the light from advertisments for lighting our path home safely every night in the ghetto? Here's an idea, we're supposed to live in a democratic society not a consumer society and the essence of democray is the people's voice. Mr. Solimeo is so concerned with the damaging of respect for the rule of law, meanwhile this is a law, which the people voted on (which is more than his 32,000 members). Just not a law he particularly likes, because it won't benefit some rich corportion's hunger for mega marketing. And isn't the essense of real capitolism supposed to be the working class, the smalll independent businesses and mechanics' shops, Mr. Petit is complaining about. By the way the only billboards, we enjoy seeing have been illegal since day one. And those would be the beautiful burners, throw up, stickers, wheat pastes, stencils and tags that remind us we're fighting against global machine to be heard, recognized and seen. Against every system in place to control and monitor us. Police, military, religion, economic, media, social class and political. This artistic and human expression is done worldwide without any weapons...

Say yes to H.R.1707!

Want to shut down terrorist training camps? Maybe we should start with the one in Georgia. On November 16, 1989, six Jesuit priests, their co-worker and her teenage daughter were massacred in El Salvador. A U.S. Congressional Task Force reported that those responsible were trained at the U.S. Army School of the Americas (SOA) at Ft. Benning, Georgia. On September 20, 1996, under intense public pressure, the Pentagon was forced to release training manuals that were used at the School of the Americas for years. These manuals advocated torture, extortion, blackmail and the targeting of civilian populations. Representative McGovern has introduced H.R. 1707, the Latin America Military Training Review Act! This legislation would suspend operations at the SOA/ WHINSEC and investigate the history of torture and human rights abuses associated with the school. Say YES to H.R.1707!

Soarse Spoken: Leadership Midnight LP
It's business as usual again at 94.3 FM, Miami's local commercial radio, until Leadership Midnight gets past security again, and this time they brought Project Mooncircle with boxes wax. For those who have the mixtape CD on wax which dropped in 2006 in Japan, this vinyl is a must for any serious DJ because not only does it have many of the underground bangers from the CD (featuring guest appearances by Mustafa, Seven Star, Omniscient, Dirty Work, CYNE, etc..) but also it includes many of the audio take over skits. A real Dj tool for any DJ who's tired of the jiggy business behind commerical radio! More information on how to buy this LP here and audio sample of the whole release is here.

Promo video was put together by La Mano Fria who complied footage from an FTAA protest in Miami 2003 which Beta Bodega Coalition attended. The video was taken minutes before the police started beating the shit out of people and chasing protesters into Overtown. For a much better video about the FTAA, check out the film, Miami Model for a breakdown of Miami and the FTAA. Back to our promo video above, the rare footage of Soarse Spoken was taken at a concert put on by La Mano Fria on the eve of the protest in the Little Haiti part of Miami. Corporate control is present in all media not only radio and engulfs everything from food, water to telecommunications, the battle for independence is not impossible and the solution is inside us all. And it can be done by art, music and your mind as your only weapon. Infiltrate! Thanks to our partners at Project: Mooncircle and HHV.de how made the vinyl possible. And the limited full length cd can be found in Japan thanks to our nihonjin crew at RL66. Soarse Spoken's album debut entitled "Third World Prophecies" is scheduled for late 2007, so keep it locked here for more info!

Give your local radio station a call and let them know the airwaves belong to the people not corporate sponsors or greedy guys in business suits.

[Nicaragua] Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said the United States should pay $300 million to support former "Contra" rebels who Washington and the CIA trained and funded in the 1980's to fight the leftist's first Sandinista government. President George W. Bush's administration should assume some responsibility for the welfare of the ex-Contras. The former rebels are demanding housing, land and farm credits promised to them at the end of Nicaragua's civil war that pitted the U.S.-financed fighters against the Sandinista revolutionary government. Ortega now enjoys the support of some former Contras (his former rival) who live in poverty and feel betrayed by the right-wing governments that ruled Nicaragua after the Sandinistas were voted out in 1990. At least 30,000 people died in the civil war.

Things Caught in Epstein's Hair

Just when you thought it was safe to get a haircut, the Ecuadorean afro is back. This time he brings us a record not in his digging crates but something he told us we should check out. This crew of Puerto Ricans from the Bronx (ground zero for the birth of Hip Hop) drop is funk and thats old dirty latin rock. Ghetto Brothers: Power Fuerza. We're not sure of the year but it looks to be around the early to mid 70's on a label called Salsa. On the liner notes it reads, ""This album contains a message; a message to the world, from the Ghetto Brothers. The Ghetto Brothers, a community organization dedicated to bridging the ever-increasing gap that exists between society and minority groups, believe music to be the common language of the world. Through music, they are able to inform society of the plight of the 'little people' in their quest for recognition. Therefore, the music of the Ghetto Brothers serves as a way of communication." They took the words right out of our mouth. Peep the track entitled, Viva Puerto Rico Libre. And don't forget if you want to stay up on all of Epstein's solo and instrumental all you need to do is go here and bookmark the Arepaz label website. The home also of Deviant, Climber, Manuvers, V8, Mr. Cooper, Jahbitat and many more.

Corporations murdering Colombians

Colombia's chief prosecutor said Tuesday he will demand the extradition of eight people allegedly involved with Chiquita's payments to right-wing paramilitaries death squads in a region where it had profitable banana-growing operations. The prosecutor also said in an interview with local RCN radio that his office had opened a formal investigation into allegations that Alabama-based coal producer Drummond Co. Inc. collaborated with paramilitaries to kill union members. Chiquita Brands International pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. federal court to one count of doing business with a terrorist organization.

Rice and Beans: 10 Year Anniversary Exhibitions

December 2006 saw the official "Rice and Beans 10 Year Anniversary" exhibition by La Mano Fria in Shibuya, Tokyo. Held at Uplink Gallery, a company that also supports and distributes films in Japan such as Life and Debt, The Corporation, Rockers, Stepping Razor: Red X, etc.

Rice and Beans T-shirts were started in early 1996 by Beta Bodega Coalition members, La Mano Fria and Lord SP. Lord SP was the DJ of the Rice and Beans crew, while La Mano Fria worked on designs. Together they built a series of ideas and designs that mixed urban and latin street culture with social awareness messages. The phrase, "Third World Power," was born. Lord SP had more of a vision of catchy images and icons that the urban latin youth could identify with, whereas La Mano Fria's ideas of Third World Power were a lot more militant. The first shirt, "Goya: Si es Latino tiene que ser bueno!" was the idea of Lord SP. A simple and effective way to flip a famous latin food brand name into a symbol of Latin pride, the side print was a list of ingredients which listed Latin American countries. However, La Mano Fria felt something was missing, which was a deeper message. So on the hang tag he added information concerning Goya's long record of exploiting its workers and smashing labor unions as many corporations do. The next design was more in the direction of La Mano Fria. "Breakfast of Champions" took the well known slogan of the Wheaties cereal and applied it to rice and beans which is the foundation of every meal in Latin America. Rather than overpaid athletes, images of indigenous freedom fighters in Guatemala were selected as the real champions. These native people still are oppressed and murdered hundred of years after the European invasion of Columbus. The design also was to combat the "His"tory we're fed growing up in the US, which is: when it's a bunch of white colonists called "Minutemen" or "Sons of Liberty" toting a rifle, they are heroes, but when it's brown skinned natives called "Sandinistas" or "Zapatistas" carrying rifles they are criminals and terrorists. Though Rice and Beans T-shirts were short lived, lasting only about a year, it laid the groundwork for what was later to become the Beta Bodega label, the fusion of music, design and a message. The following designs after "Goya" and "Breakfast of Champions" have remained a mystery, and were never released.

Major underground figures in the underground urban music scene with roots in Latin America know and have worn Rice and Beans T-shirts with pride. From Nicaraguan born, 3 time DMC world champion DJ Craze to Boricua legend, Bobbito "DJ Cucumberslice" Garcia. It was Bobbito that ran the historic Bobbito's Footwork record/clothing/sneaker store from 1996-2000. After being given a shirt, he liked it so much that he wore it during the famous annual Puerto Rican Day parade in NYC. It was in the fall of 1996 that Rice and Beans debuted at Footwork, where the 2 known designs were sold exclusively. Rice and Beans T-shirts ended in 1997.

After the founding of the Beta Bodega label, Rice and Beans was once again activated but this time to serve as a record label. The sound was grimy but yet electronic and the message was always clear. Third world power! The label, though very underground, deb debuted the first track by the then unknown Prefuse 73 and it paved the way for the label: Botanica del Jibaro. Now, completing its mission and serving the Coalition well, it's time for it to end but not die. It's now been called upon to finish what it started over 10 years ago, and that's to carry a message through T-shirt designs once again. Re-instated in 2005 in Tokyo, Rice and Beans is well back on it's way to use fabric, thread and ink to convey a message. Though many try to imitate and fall short, Rice and Beans' pioneering essence still lives after all these years and will continue to do so in 2007.

Seven Star: Alternate Invention

The long awaited album from Seven Star is just days away from dropping. The album Alternate Invention is a continuation of a journey that started back in 2000 with the 12" "Avatar" and later in 2003 with, "John Doe Lamarckian" both on Miami's Counterflow Recordings. Also he could be found that same year featured on Manuver's Afluenza CD and Supernatural Tangents limited 7" on Botanica del Jibaro. This all leading up to the 2004 underground classic album on Counterflow Recordings entitled, "My Mother And Father Were Astronauts" and 2005's "Philosophy of Letting Go" 12" which featured a remix by Epstein. And in this autumn that tradition continued and carried over to Botanica del Jibaro, as the 12" entitled "Trojan Horse" is in stores now featuring Deviant, Epstein, Climber, Gordon and Soarse Spoken. La Mano Fria and the entire Beta Bodega Coalition is proud to present to you: Alternate Invention.

Alternate Invention album official release dates for 2006:

Say no to H.R.4437

Say no to the criminalizing of immigrants and their families in the US. This project of the law H.R.4437 seeks to criminalize over 11 million of undocumented immigrants that live in the United States of America and punish U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents that are in contact with them. Most of us, if not all of us, at Botanica del Jibaro have parents and family that immigrated to the US without papers years ago and would not be here if there were laws like H.R.4437 in place. Actually, this nation wouldn't exist either, as it was built on the blood, sweat and tears of immigrants from all parts of the world. Say NO to H.R.4437!

Botanica del Jibaro on Myspace

Because our fans requested it, we have put up a "Myspace" page. You and your crew can come check us on here too. Join and spread at will. By the way, for all you Myspace fanatics bigging up Myspace, the party is over because it's not "your" space anymore! Myspace was bought out by Rupert Murdoch, a multi-national corporate right-wing giant. While Beta Bodega Coalition operates only 2 record labels, Mr. Murdoch's corporations not only owns Myspace now but most of the media you know and watch daily. He owns 9 television networks, 40 television stations, 175 newspapers, 20th Century Fox, 100 cable channels, 40 book publishers, etc. Find out more about this guy here as once again corporations find ways to study, catalog, and analyze the youth to see what they can sell us and predict and monitor how we feel about our government. Though a free online network to connect with others and express ideas is a positive, remember nothing under this system is really "free".

Professor X [R.I.P.]

The hip hop community continues to suffer losses. A moment of silence as everyone at Beta Bodega Coalition are huge X-Clan fans. We grew up listening Professor X chant his trademark catch phrases "Vainglorious" while he dissed suckas by calling them "sissies". More than just a hype-man for Brother J, Professor X dropped knowledge with an abstract and original style all his own. Professor X, whose real name was Lumumba Carson, was the son of the late Civil Rights pioneer Sonny Carson who passed away in 2002. (Sonny worked in the Bedford-Stuyvesant (aka Do or Die, Bed-Stuy! for all you art students that just moved to "Brooklyn"), Ocean Hill, Brownsville areas of eastern Brooklyn were places where he fought over community to organize its power over schools and education. A movie called "The Education of Sonny Carson" can be found, peep it.) Back to his son, Professor X carried on his fathers leadership qualities by founding the grassroots organization BlackWatch. Professor X of X-Clan died in a New York-area hospital after a bout with meningitis. Meningitis is a byproduct of bacterial or viral infections that overcome the body's natural immune system. In 1995, X-Clan group member Sugar Shaft died from complications related to the AIDS virus. X-Clan released a pair of critically acclaimed albums, To the East, Blackwards (1990) and Xodus (1992), but soon after the Brooklyn-based collective disbanded and went on to do a few solo projects. In December 2005, X-Clan announced a comeback, but it was unclear if Professor X was party to the reunion. Professor X was supposed to appear in Miami at the end of February 2006, but we were all in Europe at the time, and now regret we couldn't see him perform for the last time. Anyway R.I.P. Professor X, your struggle which is our struggle lives and will continue as we hope to inspire others, as you inspired us. Sissssssssssies!

The 411 on 9-11
Tired of trying to convince people that the story about the attack on the Twin Towers wasn't really investigated too well, since we were made busy dodging letters filled with white powder and watching an American corporate media that focused on the drama of the attacks instead of the evidence, facts and the various alternative motives? Ask questions, demand answers. Peep this movie.

Bandeja Paisa presents
2 new slabs of wax from Botanica del Jibaro producer/artists Climber (BP002) and Epstein (BP003). This special series is exclusive on the Beta Bodega Coalition "special projects" label: Bandeja Paisa. Those that have the limited book (BP001) know the collaboration project between Mano Fria Press and Orange Press. These projects are made and distributed here in Miami by our compañeros at Counterflow distribution. Available in late December 2005, every real DJ needs these 2 records on the real to real. Here's a preview of what they look and sound like.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Climber: Second Hand 12"
-
REPARATIONS [featuring PUNCH3NELLO]
EYE OF THE BEHOLDER [featuring SERUM]
THE FOOTPRINT
-

The newest and most interesting project to come out from Beta Bodega Coalition. Climber is comprised of 2 producers, Shift and DJ Tosh, who met during their high school years in Santiago, Chile. Shift was a member in the now disbanded Deaf to the General Public group from here in Miami. DJ Tosh is Japanese yet grew up in Santiago, Chile and then later made his way to the U.S. to attend college and now currently resides in Japan. With the featured vocals of Punch3nello on side A and Serum on the flip side this sonic work of art is complete. Jacket design by La Mano fria from Beta Bodega Coalition.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Epstein: Regresar 12"
-
EL CUCO
SIN PUEBLO
PLAYA, MAR, CERDO, JUEGO
RESIDUO DE AYER
-

Regresar, which means "to return" in Spanish, is just that. A return to Epsteins roots and culture. The vibe is Latin American soul meets dirty Southern funk. Grimy breaks for any serious DJ. Roberto Carlos Lange aka Epstein collects sonic dust, flipping and molding it into a rusty boom bap that will snap your neck. Born in the US, Epstein is the second son born to Ecuadorean immigrants who chose the South Florida area to raise their family. This dual culture understanding allows him to pull from a wide range of sounds, from vintage South American pop to obscure southern African American music. For serious DJs and music lovers only. Jacket design by La Mano fria from Beta Bodega Coalition.

Hurricane Relief Jam

If you are in the South Florida area come check out some of the crew at the 11 hour Hurricane victim benefit. On hand will be some of the Botanica All-Stars members: Seven Star, Solo-man Spectrum, Serum and Soarse Spoken (maybe even La Mano Fria). Since FEMA and President didn't really want to do shit, BDJ and Audio Thrift Shop thought 2 weeks back that something should be done, even thogh the whole things become a fashion statement now. Speaking of fashion bring you and $15 and you'll get in, eat and be given an exclusive t-shirt designed by La Mano Fria which he donated. The shirt says, what else but "George Bush doesn't like black people", incase you needed Kanye West to point that out to you. And if you're not black rest asured that he don't like you either because you are part of the hip hop underground. [Update] Here are the photos from the show.

Baghdad on the Bayou

Armed with assault rifles, contractors from private security firm "Blackwater" are patrolling the black-water-flooded streets of New Orleans. Meanwhile, unnarmed Red Cross workers toting food and medicine have been unable to enter the city for days.

The name Blackwater may ring a bell for those who've been following that other Gulf warzone: Iraq. The highly trained private security contractors support US military operations there, and in Afghanistan, typically earning far more pay than enlisted personnel. More in this New York Times article on the forced confiscation of weapons from civilians "but not from guns-for-hire" in New Orleans. Snippet: Waters were receding across this flood-beaten city today as police officers began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here. No civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns or other firearms, said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police. "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons," he said.

But that order apparently does not apply to hundreds of security guards hired by businesses and some wealthy individuals to protect property. The guards, employees of private security companies like Blackwater, openly carry M-16's and other assault rifles. Mr. Compass said that he was aware of the private guards, but that the police had no plans to make them give up their weapons.

Solo-man Spectrum

Newest edition to the Botanica del Jibaro crew, Solo-man Spectrum, drops a rugged 4 track gem (+ 3 instrumentals) entitled "Popcorn in Heaven". Tired of nerd rap and psuedo intellectual/political college rappers from the suburbs? Yeah, so is Solo-man, coming straight from the streets of dirty dade county aka Miami to be heard live and uncensored. Well written street scriptures to rip into 2006 with, forget 2005. This record is available in Europe now and in the US and Japan this fall so don't sleep. And if you're in Portugal or Spain in October, look out for Solo-man to be all up in area with the rest of the Botanica All-Stars. Here's some sound.

Seven Star presents

Let the greed guide them to fortune and fame. Let them learn to be the same or feel the shame. Use their brains to memmorize irrelevant events and names, glorify ancestors pain as only way to keep them tame. They've come to make a change, but we consider them insane. They know that a career will have them functioning in vain. Making bosses money while their pockets remain plain. Look! America has a stain! The ignorant masses of ignorant DNA strains. We say their excuses are lame. We say it so that we dont get the blame. We are the ones who should be shamed. The outkasted teenager has been framed. The toddlers imagination has been maimed. Adult life has been ordained. The newborn has been scorned with out a name. A face to become faceless in the reign of the colorless and plain. Jason Colon is a clone Seven Star ia my name!

Hip Hop, the perpetual recycler, as I observe it, may well be the epidome of life.Hip Hop takes from the past to create a future.Like memory itself, Hip Hop works as a reminder of what once was through recreation by adding to the past with out disturbing the original creations origin. Like a woman picking a flower and placing it in her hair. The beauty of the flower only exentuates her beauty and in the end recreates the flowers.

Things Caught in Epstein's Hair

Epstein's words about these items stuck in his hair, "Miami (the group) represents a pulse that echoed into this generation of music makers. Soul, drums, bass and sweat defines each song of this album. I picked this record up at a used clothes store in Savannah, Georgia and learned that Miami represented alot more in music than I had ever known. And Piero: Mi Viejo means "my old man". There's alot to be said about this. everyone has a father. And whether or not they are a father, this song means something to everyone."

Soarse Spoken presents

My idea of Paradise.........A place where people of all colors live day by day with a passion for life unlike any other people I have ever met. Where children play in the streets instead of staying indoors to watch television. Where poverty doesn’t bring the people down, but rather let’s them appreciate what little they have. Where the local futbol team winning a championship brings a celebration through out the city so incredible and an energy so exciting it gives you goose bumps and makes you proud to be part of it. Where young men proudly become defenders of their country. Where husband and wife love each other. Where the divorce rate is much lower than in a more developed country. Where the education is better and the literacy rate much higher than in a more developed country. Where the landscape is breathtaking. Where the people are kind and humble. Where violence is declining. Where the people would rather go to the park than the mall. Where inspiration is plenty. Where you can hear music coming out of almost every home. Where the women are beautiful. Where the food is good. Where you are not looked down upon because of the clothes you wear or the music you listen to. Where the culture is deep rooted and the people are proud. Where family comes first. A place where people stick to their word. A place where the sun shines brighter because of much greener mountains. A place where you could see the stars shinning bright at night. Where true love takes precedence over materialism. Where people treat you with warmth and make you feel welcome. A place where, despite all the conflict and struggle going on, people still have hope and believe in a bright future. I was born in a place like this and I am proud to be Colombian.

[Colombia] Hundreds of Colombians arrive every week in cities along the Caribbean coast like Barranquilla, pushed north by this country's civil war. Left vulnerable by a government too weak to protect them, displaced families are greeted by poverty and growing exploitation that the United Nations says is compounding the world's worst ongoing humanitarian crisis outside Africa. Illegal paramilitary militias, formed in the 1980s by landowners trying to protect their property from Marxist rebels, have discovered how easy it is to earn 20 percent on one-month loans to the growing number of displaced people desperate to get back on their feet. "It's expensive, but what else can I do," a 39-year-old women living in Soledad, a dusty Barranquilla suburb, told Reuters, asking not to be named. She recently borrowed 50,000 pesos (about $21) from men she described as "mafia backed by the paramilitaries" to buy fruit to peddle on the street.

[Nicaragua] A strong earthquake shook Nicaragua and Costa Rica on Friday but there were no reports of damage or injuries. The quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 struck at 8.16pm local time (02h16 GMT), according to the US Geological Survey. The quake, whose epicentre was near the southern Pacific coast of Nicaragua, shook buildings and lasted up to 30 seconds, witnesses in the Nicaraguan capital of Managua said. No casualties or damage were reported, Juan Rodriguez, a spokesperson for Nicaragua's rescue authorities, said. The temblor was also felt in northern Costa Rica. Authorities there said they had no reports of injuries or damage.

[Colombia] Fourteen years ago, Alirio Vargas stepped on a land mine near his village, losing an eye and part of his left leg meant for a Colombian soldier or right-wing death squad mercenary. Now he is pressuring the National Liberation Army, Colombia's second-largest guerrilla group, to remove all unexploded ordnance laid by the rebels in recent years. "As campesinos, we are obliged to speak to the fighters and defend our rights," said the 55-year-old farmer. While the government of President Alvaro Uribe has failed to bring the Cuban-inspired rebel group referred to as the ELN and the country's largest rebel group, the Revolutionary Army of Colombia (FARC), back to the peace table, peasant communities here and elsewhere have decided to negotiate with the rebels on their own. In an unprecedented gesture in December, the ELN pledged to remove land mines on roads near five northern towns. In February, the rebels ended their first mine-sweeping effort by clearing at least 71 explosives from the roads surrounding this village of 7,500 inhabitants in the San Lucas mountain range. In the past seven years, four Micoahumado villagers have been killed and seven wounded from land mines, according to the Colombian Campaign Against Mines, an organization affiliated with the Nobel Prize-winning International Campaign to Ban Land Mines.

Soarse Spoken presents

Colombia, located in the northwestern part of South America, has long been regarded as one of the most dangerous regions in Latin America. I was born in this country in 1979 and migrated, with my mother and younger brother, to the United States when I was six years old. I have visited Colombia twice since then, once when I was ten and again when I was thirteen. When my family and I left this place it was almost impossible for people of our class (the lower class) to survive. We lived in a shack on a mud hill known as “un tugurio” which my father built out of halve descent bricks, plywood and other materials we could afford at the time. It was a pretty shitty place, in a bad neighborhood, full of poverty and depression.

Medellin, the same city in which I was born and am currently writing this report from, was once known as one of the top 5 most dangerous city’s to visit on the planet. It has changed dramatically since my last stay. Both physically and in it’s stability. The country is now better off economically than it was in the 80´s during the reign of Pablo Escobar’s Medellin drug cartel. The fifty year civil war which once raged for the benefit of the “campesino,” now has a different agenda by corrupt guerrilla organizations, paramilitary groups and crooked government officials alike. The president, Alvaro Uribe Vélez, now on his 3rd year as president, regarded by leftist groups as supporter of the paramilitary, has done a pretty good job of cleaning up the place. The people are more full of love, life and passion than ever and remain more humble and kind than any other people I’ve ever met during my travels to three continents.

Of course with the good there is the bad. This is till a “third world country” and pretty unstable compared to economic powers such as the United States, or countries like U.K. or even Switzerland. There are still places you can not go because you might get robbed or killed, or both. There is still a great gap between the rich and the lower class. There are still more people per capita trying to survive on a daily basis than a lot of other countries in the world. There is still a civil war.

They say a broken heart takes time to heal. With the will, strength and confidence of this great country, I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few decades, Colombia becomes a world leader. Allowing, of course, that the World Bank and the WTO get their greedy claws off of her. One!

When fascism controls America, they'll call it homeland security
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

[Colombia] Paramilitary leaders are rushing to sell millions of dollars' worth of cocaine before they demobilize so they can retire wealthy from Colombia's protracted war, a top military commander said. Navy chief Adm. Mauricio Soto said in an interview with The Associated Press that the paramilitary death squads, United Self Defense Forces of Colombia, or AUC, is shipping an unprecedented amount of stored cocaine from the country ahead of their demobilization, which is under way as part of a peace deal with the government. "The paramilitaries urgently need to sell what they have," Soto said. "They need the money, because if they are going to demobilize, what interests them is the cash." Jose Miguel Vivanco, director for Human Rights Watch-Americas, said he is not surprised that AUC chieftains are selling their cocaine supplies before demobilizing, because an amnesty bill would not penalize them if they lie about crimes committed or goods they have hidden.

Things Caught in Epstein's Hair
Epstein's words about this item stuck in his hair, "Ecuador nigga, thats our pride. These songs are a foundation to all my music. 5 AM. My dads friends drunk as fuck singing that shit. Julio Jaramillo was the voice I could hear while my family danced, drank and sang while I laid down listening to the party when I was young. The nostalgia his voice brings has a universal effect but a more personal one for, it never lets me forget where I came from. The song "Sombras" has been in a few dreams of mine. All my dad's friends could play requinto. This was my favorite song, I loved to watch them play.

Imagination travels like sound, invisible to the naked eye until through creativity ones imagination can be projected on the physical plane by the act of creation. Through a process called creative thinking, a subject may visualize, plan out and see to fruition, given their resources, a creation. This methodology can also be used to destroy. The question is, can we create or destroy with out using tools, machines or even our own bodies? Can we create or destroy using our imaginations? I beleive the answer to be yes. If one imagines anothers pain, one can imagine anothers lack there of and can see both in to fruition using only the mind.......

[Colombia] The Colombian inspector general is demanding that Congress review a diplomatic treaty with the United States that shields US soldiers operating on Colombian soil from local prosecution for misdeeds committed here. In a May 20 letter to President Alvaro Uribe, Inspector General Edgardo Maya argued that the 1974 diplomatic agreement that protects US soldiers from Colombian justice is invalid because it violates the Constitution. In the past three months, seven American soldiers have been arrested in two separate incidents involving arms smuggling and drug trafficking. At the start of May, Army Warrant Officer Allan Tanquary and Sgt. Jesus Hernandez were arrested near the Tolemaida military base with nearly 40,000 rounds of ammunition that were allegedly intended for right-wing paramilitaries death squads. At the end of March, five US soldiers were detained for allegedly smuggling 35 pounds of cocaine from the Apiay base to El Paso, Texas. Two have been released, while the others are in the US awaiting trial in military courts.

Things Caught in Epstein's Hair
The first edition from the Botanica crews nastiest sonic dust collector. Easily wreckognizable in a crowd due to the large South American rainforest which makes it's home on his head, Epstein grooms his hair maybe a couple times a month at best. During these rare occasions he comes across things he lost or things newly dicovered. What did Epstein find this time caught in his hair?

Epstein's words about this item stuck in his hair, "shit is tough, makes you feel good."
